When the first 1290 Super Adventure S arrived in our showroom, we admit, our thoughts were it was the black sheep and wouldn’t really be purchased. Why? Because the R variant was the hot topic in the media, and KTM are known for their offroad ability. Even KTM had the same predictions. We were all wrong.
Everyone admire’s KTM’s ability to produce an amazing offroader. The already legendary Toby Price helps bring this in to the spotlight. What we all forget is how awesome KTM are at making a road bike. So take the two of those recipe’s, and you’ll find the S model that’s born from adventure riding but engineered for the tarmac. And the occasional dirt too. So you could say it’s the best of both…isn’t that what everyone wants though?
As supersport sales plummet across the globe, and some of us get older quicker that we’d like, this category takes over where the lean-forward-on-your-wrist bikes drop away. Having incredible horsepower, cruising comfort features, safety plus electronics, information overload, customisation features digitally and mechanically and all of this with the ability to add touring type bits and take a passenger without the excess whinging just makes owning an adventure bike in today’s world the obvious choice.
In the past to do this you made sacrifices; comfort, speed, handling, trying to find one that didn’t feel like a tractor, road bikes characteristics. Not any more.
