Choosing the right motorcycle for you. So you’ve decided to look into purchasing a new motorcycle. Now you need to decide which one you’ll be taking home, but it doesn’t need to be a tough decision.
Before you make any decisions though, it might be a good idea to ask yourself a few important questions so that you can rest assured you are walking away with the perfect ride suited to you.
What are you using it for? The first thing you’ll need to ask yourself is how you’re going to be using the bike.
Commuter/Street: Focus on low end torque. If you’re only going to be using it to weave through traffic on your way to work and around the streets, you’ll want a bike with decent low end torque, such as a street motorcycle. It will help you get off the line quicker and have a better street riding experience.
Track/Highway rider: Focus on high end torque. Planning on putting your new bike through it’s paces on a track or down the highway? A bike with loads of high end torque, such as a Supersport motorcycle, is definitely going to impress.
On & Off Road.Adventure motorbikes are great for riders who want to experience the thrill of on and off road journeys on the same bike.
Touring/cruisers: Focus on comfort. If you’re after a motorcycle that can handle both short and longer journeys with ease while keeping you comfortable, then take a look at our Touring motorcycles and Cruisers.
Narrowing it down. Once you have an idea about what you’re using the bike for, you can then starting narrowing it down even further by getting to know some of the different types of bikes on the market. These days, there’s something out there to suit just about everything, from sports bikes to off road dirt bikes. Each of these comes with its own pros and cons, as well as different requirements for kit. If you’re not sure what type of bike you want, do some research before making any big decisions.
A brand name can tell you a lot about what you’re getting from a motorcycle, as well as how easy it’s going to be to get hold of parts when you need them. Certain brands, such as Ducati, have a reputation for manufacturing smaller numbers and this tends to be really appealing to a lot of people, while others might not consider this to be a priority when it comes to their purchase. When it comes to brand, you might find that this is as much of a subjective opinion as it is one that is based on knowledge and experience.
Your own capabilities. When you’re ready to make this sort of investment, you need to make sure that you take your own capabilities into account and you really need to be honest with yourself here. Your safety should your main priority and if the bike is beyond your capabilities, you could end up putting yourself at risk just to impress your mates.
Look past the initial purchase. There’s a lot of things you need to consider when purchasing a motorcycle and it’s not all about the motorcycle itself. You need to think about things like running the motorbike and paying your insurance, as all of this will have an impact on what you get out of your motorcycle. Of course, bigger bikes cost more to run and they can often be more costly to insure, but this isn’t necessarily the case with every single one. Doing your homework will ensure that you invest in a new motorcycle that you’ll enjoy for many years to come.
