Next Step Racing. The all-electric KTM SX-E 2 bridges the gap from the balance bike range and the larger SX-E 3 and SX-E 5 electric.

Modern, striking "big bike" graphics applied using an in-mold process for durability.

High end forged alloy wheels, forged chromoly steel lower triple clamps, swingarm and skid plate made of JPDC aluminium alloy.  All built tough to last.

A new design concept for the frame reduces the number of components needed for less connection points.  This also means increased rigidity.

A subframe made of high quality glass-fibre that's reinforced, impact resistant and low weight.  A black KTL-coating completes the process.

WP Suspension is featured, with a non-adjustable fork.  Pre-load adjustable rear mono-shock helps the set up.  90mm front and 70mm rear travel is available.

10 inch wheels front and back shod with all-terrain tyres.  Maintenance free rims and KENDA tyres for excellent balance and grip.

Growing young riders need a low seat height and KTM deliver here with a 2 level adjustable seat that's either 470mm or 500mm.  You can also lower the front fork in the triple clamp and adjust the foot peg carrier height, letting them start young and have the bike grow with them (good for the budget too not upgrading as often).

Hydraulic disc brakes that measure 140mm front and rear gets them fast to stop in a flash.  Levers are adjustable, suitable for smaller hands.  Brake pads matter too, with these the same as high-end bicycle pads making them easy to find and buy come replacement time.

Black anodised aluminium handlebars have a reduced diameter grip area suitable for little hands.  Easy steering was part of the R&D team's goal, plus ODI lock on grips for reassurance of a solid hold.

All this only weighs 27 kg.  Yet it feels like a real, big motorcycle, helping muscle memory growth and familiarity with future rides.  Good for parents too, making these easy to transport, especially when vehicle or trailer payload matters with everything else you have to take.

A 1.8kW HUB motor powers it along, with a maximum torque of 50Nm.  That's significant for a small mini bike!  You'll notice there's no chain or sprockets too - great in the event of a crash and no risk of clothing being caught when they are still learning.

The motor has an electronic controller, guaranteeing spontaneous and controllable power delivery.  All this is charged by an external 500W charger that's connected to regular mains power or a generator (charger inclusion TBC).  In 35 minutes or so, you'll see 80% capacity or wait the 60 minutes for full 100% charge.  The perfect time to stop for a food, drink and loo break before getting back out there.  Ride time will depend on the power delivery and how confident they become.
